RoboGauge is a comprehensive set of tools to transform any industrial robot
into a powerful and precise automated CMM.

The package includes:
The SKEYE high-performance 3D scanning head
The RT series real-time vision controller
FLY software library for easy 3D data acquisition, manipulation & analysis
All cables & accessories

How it works
1. The part is scanned

2. The raw data is converted
Proprietary 3D reconstruction algorithm yields highly accurate spatial coordinate measurements in real-time.

3. An inspection scheme is performed
A part-specific metrology analysis defined to comply with QA requirements ensures repeatability and reproductivity.

4. Quality control

Metrology data are weighted against nominal values for tolerance validation.

How to build a solution
1. Select an industrial robot or multi-axis system
RoboGauge can support all main-stream multi-axis motion systems.

2. Install the scanner
SKEYE, our high-speed 3D scanning head, is mechanically designed to be attached in the same manner as a typical robot tool.

3. Create an application-specific interface
FLY 3D DTK in conjuncture with a preferred programming language (VB.NET, Visual C++, C#, …) allows integrators to design an inspection solution with a custom design user interface.

4. Deploy solution on the manufacturing floor
FLY 3D Runtime and RT Controller software and hardware open-architecture paradigm enables automation solution providers to integrate this tailored system into a complete manufacturing solution.

Benefits
1. Solution for Automated 3D Solutions
Avoid the gamble. You can now promote your production line to a 100% 3D full accuracy inspection level by integrating a RoboGauge based solution. The proprietary algorithms and hardware specific optimization insure the full reliability of metrology measurements without any drawbacks on throughput.

2. Flexible Evolving Solutions
An inspection cell built around the RoboGauge CMM tool can handle a great ranges of parts of different geometries, sizes and textures. Inspection recipes for virtually an unlimited number of SKU can be invoked from a database or any storage medium in a blink of an eye during automated operations.

3. Open Architecture
The system is truly open, in software as in hardware. The RoboGauge controller houses expansion slots for design specific hardware on top of many included types of I/O functionalities such as Ethernet 100/1000, DIO and RS232 ports. The software library allows development in all mainstream programming environment under Microsoft Windows and the interfacing, through Microsoft ActiveX technology, to all important professional software.

4. Integrated All-in-one Solutions
RoboGauge gives the developer the ability to design powerful application without the hassles of hardware compatibility issues or complicated image acquisition system interfacing. Graphical User Interface and wizards will help the operator feel like a computer vision expert.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions
1. Is Robo Gauge compatible with Catia software?
RoboGauge is a tool to scan parts automatically with high speed and high accuracy. The software tools to compare the point cloud of the scanned part with CAD are third party software like PolyWorks that is able to import both Catia format and Fly format (Fly is O3D software library that manage RoboGauge) to compare the point could to the CAD.

2. Will Robo Gauge detect its own reflection?
RoboGauge uses the laser triangulation technique. Compared to white light technique, it is much more robust when scanning shinny and reflective surfaces (part coating is not needed). Although the default parameters of the SkEye scanners will perform well with a large variety of surfaces, RoboGauge allows the users to adjust the laser intensity to tune the acquisition the actual surface.

3. When using two SKEYE in one system – is there a loss in speed?

No, the scanning speed is not affected when using two SkEye scanners with one RT3600 controller.

4. What type of environmental protection does Robo Gauge have (i.e. dust, moisture, etc.)?
RoboGauge is designed to operate on industrial production floors with ambient temperature that varies from 10 to 40 degrees. However it is not water proof. As for any optical device, lens has to be kept clean of dust or cleaned with appropriate frequency depending on the environment in which it is used.

5. When exposed to a red hot metal environment - will the optics be affected?
RoboGauge is designed to operate on industrial production floors with ambient temperature that varies from 10 to 40 degrees.

6. What type of data files are produced after scanning ?
Scans are provided in a compressed proprietary format that can be exported into popular third-party point-cloud analysis software like Polyorks. Two-dimensional or three-dimensional Image analysis can also be performed on intermediate format for fast data processing.

7. How often do you have to calibrate the system?
The scanner it self does not need to be recalibrated. The RoboGauge system provides the software to calibrate the system with the motion device (robot or other devices). This calibration is to be done once for each scanning position. The motion device repeatability over time is the criterion to consider to establish if a recalibration frequency in the case it is needed.

8. What is the maximum distance between two scanning heads on one system?

The maximum distance between a scanner and the controller is 7 meters (21 foots). This condition is the constraint for positioning two scanners one relative to the other.
